A late-night crash on a rural Cumberland County road turned deadly early morning.
Around 1:00 a.m. Sunday, Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Chadbourne Road in Standish for a reported head-on collision.
According to deputies, a Chevy Impala was traveling on Chadbourne Road when it crossed the center line and struck a flatbed tow truck head-on. The impact left debris scattered across the roadway, as seen in initial coverage from Maine's Total Coverage (WMTW).
The driver of the Impala was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three people who were inside the tow truck were injured and transported to area hospitals. Their conditions have not yet been released.
Fire and EMS crews from Standish and surrounding towns responded, and the road was closed for several hours while investigators documented the scene.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says the crash remains under investigation. No names have been released yet, and no charges have been announced.
Chadbourne Road is a narrow, winding road near the Standish/Windham line with limited lighting — a stretch where deputies have responded to serious crashes before. Officials are reminding drivers to slow down, stay in their lane, and avoid distracted or impaired driving, especially during overnight hours.
This is a developing story. We will update this post as the Sheriff's Office releases more information.
